Yesterday was of course July 4th, our Independence Day. It was a great day. The nice weather made it even better. Our ward here in Twin Falls had it's annual 4th of July breakfast, so we went to that in the morning. They had a little program before breakfast. The scouts did their thing with the flag and we all said the Pledge of Allegiance and they had someone in the ward talk about the 4th of July (he served in the armed forces at one point in his life) and the primary children sang America the Beautiful and Grand Old Flag. Then for breakfast we had pancakes, eggs, and sausage. It was delicious!
After breakfast, we went home and packed an overnight bag because we were going to spend the night in Burley with Melanie, Niels' sister. Niels also pumped up our bike tires because we wanted to bike ride before we went to Burley. So we got everything packed in the truck and left. We went to the mall to buy a new swimsuit since this weekend the Palmer family reunion starts up at Bear Lake. Niels found some pants that were cheap and he got a couple and they ended up cheaper. $18 was a great price for two pairs of pants. We finally found me a swimsuit. I hate buying swimsuites because it takes a while to find something that fits well (just like with normal clothing).
We went to the canyon rim and rode our bikes. It was so nice! It has been just over a year for Niels and about 10 months for me since the last time we rode our bikes. We need to be better at riding them because we always enjoy it. We rode up to the temple because we followed part of the trail to the road not too far from the temple. Then, we rode back.
In Burley, we started making benches. Here is the story why...every year, Niels' family draws a sibling name and that's who they give a present to. We drew Nathan and Mandy, Niels' brother and his wife. They were wanted some benches for their kitchen table. We gave them a picture of a bench and now we finally started it. We haven't gotten very far because it took like three hours just to do the little bit that we have. Hopefully we can get them both done by Christmas this year.
We worked on that, then we had dinner with Melanie and some friends, Norelle, Jolene, and Paul. We had kabobs, spinach, swiss chard, chips, cheese, fruit (watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, and cherries), potatoes, carrots. It was so good! We cleaned up, played some games, and then we went over to another friend's house to watch the fireworks that were being done by the river. Her balcony in the back overlooks the valley and it was as if the fireworks were right there. We could also see other fireworks being down in other towns.
It was a great 4th. I'm so happy to live in a place where there are so many freedoms.
